The best policy you can follow when conditions are icy or extremely cold, is to stay inside.
If you must go out, you should have someone pick you up and that person should walk with you to and from the car.
Check your shoes and boots to be certain that the anti-slip treads are in good condition. Wear boots or shoes with soles that are designed to improve traction on wet or icy surfaces.
Residents should also remind their visitors of the importance of wearing footwear that will reduce the likelihood of skipping on wet or icy surfaces during inclement weather or whenever conditions exist that are associated with people slipping and falling.
All Residents must:
Remove the stopper from the kitchen sink and open the drains in the bathroom sink & tub, so that water can drain from them.
Trickle the COLD water in the kitchen and bathroom sinks and in the tub to a constant drop. Just enough to let the water move throughout the pipes.
If the apartment's kitchen or bathroom is on an outside wall, the cabinet doors under the sink should be fully opened as well. All other cabinet doors in the kitchen should be opened about four inches.
Heat in the apartment should be turned up a little higher than usual.
If you are leaving your apartment during the cold weather, be sure to leave the heat on.
If you will be away from your apartment for a day or more, please notify the office you will not be at home.
If you do not take all the above steps to prevent pipes in your apartment from freezing causing your pipes to burst and damage your unit, and possibly your neighbors, you will be held liable for the cost of all repairs to fix the damage.
